All teachers carry a first-aid bag while on yard duty.
- Rubber Gloves
- Cotton Buds
- Post-It notes / pen
- ‘Red Cross’ cards to be given to children (to seek First Aid Room assistance)
- HELP cards (for teacher assistance in emergency situations)
The teacher on yard duty assesses injuries if they occur and either treats the injury on the yard or if it is in need of more care then the child is taken to sick bay.
The teacher assigned to sick bay duty follows up all children in their care, treating them and monitoring them. The injury is recorded and a note is given to the child to take home to inform parents that they spent time in sick bay. If the teacher judges the injury to be of a more serious nature then parents are notified. It is important that the office is informed of any changes of telephone numbers so that contact can be made.
During school hours children who are not well are sent to the sick bay and the office staff either treat the child or contact parents if they feel the child needs to go home.
