Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden in the Middle school (Years 3&4 ) allows for student engagement in this community based program.
St Peter’s Primary School has been an active participant in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden national school initiative since 2014. The students in our Middle school (Years 3 and 4) participate in planting and harvesting seasonal vegetables and then cooking and sharing meals together using the fresh produce. Research into the elements of fresh food production is an important part of the learning process. Community members support the growing and cooking process alongside the teachers and students. Pleasurable food education teaches students to grow fresh, seasonal produce and use it to prepare nutritious, delicious food. Students are given all the skills, experiences and role modelling they need to learn to love their veggies and make healthier choices about what to cook and eat, for life.
